a response, in love

i don't know how many of you care, but rick (http://rick.beckman-ministries.com) has been posting on his blog, replying to my 'jesus is still lord? really?' post and replying to all of you commenters out there. he has mostly twisted scripture to support his judgemental view (at one point, i believe he wrote that our job as christians is to judge... anyone? anyone?), and tried to debate me on something i wish to not debate on... the fact that our job is to LOVE, not to JUDGE. not worth debating in my mind.

but since he has posted twice about my one post, i figured it warranted a response.

so tonight, after waiting a week, i penned a response to rick, and posted it on his blog. i referenced matthew 7, about how we shouldn't judge others unless we want that judgement to fall on us, don't tell your brother about the speck in his eye when there's a plank in yours, etc. i typed, i deleted, i edited, i re-read, i had an objective bystander read it for me to make sure it didn't sound mean, harsh, judgemental, or cruel, and... posted. i checked, and it appeared on his website. i prayed and had high hopes that even though there has been a disagreement over the vastness of computer technology, that perhpas we could reconcile our differences to the fact that Christ makes us one, and we are brothers and sister in Him.

now when you go to his website, 'mysteriously', it is gone.

so, here's what i deduce (i deduce, therefore i am)
A) my blog was eaten by the ever-mysterious always-hungry post-monster
B) i was delusional, or drugged, and even though my conscious self tells me that i did spend at least 45 minutes penning a response to rick, i did not
C) rick could not handle someone responding to him in love, albeit still in disagreement, and deleted it.

so, CAST YOUR VOTES! was it the post monster, my delusional state, or the occam's razor choice, C!?

(sorry I removed my first one--I didn't proofread)
Your post title says it all. You never brought this up in a malicious way or with inappropriate motivation. It's unfortunate that he removed your comment. Hopefully he heard truth in it before simply getting rid of it.

I don't know that I'd feel too slighted about it - it's not like anyone here isn't aware that God is scary... in a blow-you-away great way.

Besides, it seems to me like those posts are just an excuse for Rick and Darth-whatsizname to fling rhetorical darts at one another.

Thanks for sharing your heart, Schmaul. Let us pray...

You took a good run at it, Ash, so it's probably time to let it go. For some people, debate is about power, about being righter than the other guy, not about love, so compassion never enters the equation (which is why I don't get into very many theological debates anymore--they too often divert me from the main thing).

Let's just keep loving people the best way we can--with God's help--and speak the truth in love as well. Unconditional acceptance does not mean unconditional approval. In the last analysis, the deep, loving regard we have for each other is the only sign Jesus said would identify us as his followers. Come Holy Spirit into our impoverished capacity to love anyone well.

P.S. I vote for C--sad since he thrives on debate.
